I really enjoyed my stay in Hotel Regis. Excellent location, in the heart of the historical center and just a few minutes walk to the Malecon. Beautiful old building with well-designed, clean, spacious rooms with ample closet space, a mini-fridge, air-con and a phone to ring up the front desk (also, free drinking water and sometimes coffee in the lobby). My room had a balcony, which was fabulous. It's an old colonial building (with a water well in the middle of it!), so it's bound to have some charming quirks. Like, it was funny that, every time I wanted to use the bathroom/tap/shower, I had to call the front desk and request that they turn the water on (otherwise, the water stays shut off), but, it wasn't a bother at all, as they complied instantly every time. As a budget, solo traveler, I'm not looking for "luxury", I'm looking for a clean, comfortable, safe and, with any luck, picturesque accommodation -- and this place checked off all those points. 10/10 would stay there again.
